Dhishoom: Strong cast supporting weak story
Dishoom is an upcoming action-adventure film starring John Abraham and Varun Dhawan in lead roles. The movie also features Akshay Khanna but in a negative role. Also it is first time in four years that Akshay Khanna will be seen in a movie. He is making a comeback to Bollywood with Dhishoom.
Rohit Dhawan is the writer and director of the movie the music is composed by Abhijit Vaghani and Pritam Chakraborty. It is expected to be released on 29 July 2016. Trailer of the movie has already been released and it is clear that the movie is too far from reality. Storyline isn’t strong as it is based on sentiments of the viewers. It is based on cricket that is the most popular sport in India. It is also claimed that Dhishoom is a remake of 2013 Malayalam movie Mumbai Police.
India goes to play a cricket tournament in Middle East and keeps on winning match after match. It reaches semifinal and it is matter of job for India and the Indian community in Middle East. Suddenly an ace batsman from India, Viraj, goes missing just before the match. It is learnt that he is in captivity of a bookie played by Akshay Kumar. The bookie wants the match not be cancelled or else he will kill Viraj.
In India, the government takes swift action by forming a rescue team. Indian Foreign Minister appoints Kabir Shergil (John Abraham) to work with a local cop from Emirates Junaid (Varun Dhawan) to trace Viraj. What happens is a series of misses to find Viraj. Both the cops are intelligent but there is a disconnection between their actions. The story isn’t difficult to understand as there is no flashback or sequel needed to reconstruct the story.
The story moves first until the Viraj is kidnapped but post kidnapping, it becomes slow as the only job left is to find Viraj. Akshay Kumar looks impressive in the negative role of a powerful bookie. Also there are Akhshay Kumar and Nargis Fakhri in an extended cameo. The story is based only on popularity of cricket and it shows how deep roots of cricket are in our country.
Why watch the movie?
Dhishoom should be an action comedy instead of adventure movie. The start cast is strong and it is a plus for the movie. Song “Toh Dhishoom” has already caught attention of movie buffs. It’s true that story of Dhishoom isn’t as strong as it should but the movie will be able to get viewers. Action and comedy of John and Varun is remarkable and Akshay as bookie looks dreading.
