An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power Movie

An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power: A lost attempt to picturize Al Gore’s serious efforts for Paris Agreement

There is a startling revelation about An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power. It is none of the Republicans turned to the screening of the movie on July 19. The special screening was for all the 535 Congress members but only Democrats attended the screening. Is there anything that Republicans find repugnant?

What is An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power?

It is necessary to find what kept Republicans away from screening. A follow up to blockbuster 2006 documentary of former United States Vice President Al Gore, the movie is seen in the bad light by Trump administration. Trump has disputed the notion of man-made pollution as cause for global warming. The movie has nothing artful or that can anyway help the movie world as it is more a PowerPoint presentation of Gore’s findings.

Who are the targeted audiences of the movie?

There is Al Gore in the movie and he seems to be addressing the world. Here he’s an educator and an environment scientist. The world could reject his theory but one thing is certain that is global warming and the world has to find a solution to this gigantic problem. Republicans kept away from the screening but audiences could turn to theater to see and hear Al Gore.

What is objective of the movie?

Al Gore’s efforts culminated in signing of the Paris Climate Agreement in 2016 but US President Donald Trump announced that the US would withdraw from the agreement. The announcement was made on June 1, 2017 and the decision to withdrawal could be effective in November 2020. But Gore is trying his best to save the agreement and keep US as a signatory. This documentary could do a great job in supporting the noble cause of reducing global warming.

At this point, it is difficult to say whether Trump administration is wrong in withdrawing from the agreement but the government has no strong reason for withdrawal. There is still time for the government to rethink on its decision.
