Mohenjo Daro Movie
Mohenjo Daro: Ancient love story told in the modern way
Mohenjo Daro is another epic adventure-romantic film by Lagaan fame writer and director Ashutosh Gowariker. The film features Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. The story dates back to 2016 BC and it is related to the ancient Indus Valley Civilization and its beautiful city Mohenjo Daro.
The story starts with Sarman (Hrithik Roshan), an indigo farmer from Amri, traveling to the largest city of Indus Valley Civilization that is Mohenjo Daro. There he meets Chaani (Pooja Hegde), a beautiful woman chosen for the service of Sindhu Ma. Sindhu is the river along which the civilization stands and also a source of blessing for the people. Sarman falls in love with Channi when he saved her life in an accident. Unaware about Channi, he follows her.
A local politician Maham (Kabir Bedi) is trying to run the city as an empire. He has some evil plans but Sarman accidentally becomes an obstruction to his plans. Maham is very powerful and he is determined to achieve his goal of making an empire for his son Moonja (Arunoday Singh). Channi is daughter of the head priest and to win Channi, Sarman has to stop Maham and his son from capturing power of the city. The film was shot in Bhuj and Mumbai but some scenes were also taken in Jabalpur. Music is composed by A.R. Rahman and lyricist is Javed Akhtar.
It took Gowariker three years to develop the story and relate it to the Indus Valley Civilization. Senior archaeologists were involved in creating the sets and their efforts are visible on the filmography. It is an artwork and the story is a mix of history, romance and action. Gowariker has worked hard to relate the story to the ancient civilization. His objective is to produce the story like a real story.
The story is strong but there is disconnection between the settings. Recently some videos went viral showing flaws in sets and in the storyline. But it is a good movie as it is based on ancient history whose large part is unknown for viewers.
Why watch the movie?
It is a historical thriller different from action movies of present time. Viewers will be attracted to the movie as it dates back to ancient time. Also it has romance and action in it. Sarman falls in love with Channi and challenges the local politician Maham. Kabir Bedi looks daring and dreading in the role of Maham. Another attraction of the movie is the sets. Mohenjo Daro is already popular for its sets. Whatever ratings and reviews the movie got are indicative of its popularity. Ashutosh Gowariker is another reason for watching the movie. He made Lagaan and also directed Jodha Akbar.
